Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga Return to Twitter

Kompas.com - 08/12/2010, 13:18 WIB

KOMPAS.com - All is good in the world once again!  After a self-imposed hiatus from social networking site Twitter, Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga have returned, updating the world with the every minutiae of their lives and imparting their words of wisdom to their many millions of followers.

The two Twitter addicts, along with Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Usher and Ryan Seacrest had ceased all tweeting in the name of charity.

The celebrities vowed they would maintain a full Twitter silence until a cool $1milion  had been raised  for the Digital Life Sacrifice, organized by Alicia Keys' Keep A Child Alive charity for World AIDS Day.

They all posed for a series of ads, where they were pictured laying in a coffin to symbolize their digital death.

The ads urged fans to donate money via text to the charity to resurrect their favourite star and reprise their Tweets.

According to the New York Post though some of the celebrities involved soon became frustrated by the amount of time it was taking to raise the total and getting exceedingly itchy twitter fingers.

'It's the worst mismanagement of star power I've ever seen in my life,' said a source close to the program.

The charity had estimated that it would take just one week to reach their targeted goal, but by yesterday, day six it was still yet to meet the half way mark.

Thankfully though billionaire pharmaceutical executive, Stewart Rahr stepped in to save the day after hearing of the Tweet-deprived stars and donated $500,000 of his own cold hard cash to meet the target and bring the celebrities back out of their Twitter exile.

And not a minute too soon it seems, a source tells the Post: 'Some stars thought the money would be raised in 24 hours, and were embarrassed that critics said it proves nobody cares about their Twitter presence'.

In the meantime it seems Usher was just too impatient to wait another minute. The R & B singer actually made his return to Twitter in the early hours of Sunday morning.

And what was the burning message that was so important it could not possibly be held back any longer, even in the name of fighting AIDS and global poverty?

'Twit fam, I'm whack for being late, I need your help. Twit,Happy Birthday Rico Love!!! He is the man that wrote you "There goes my baby"' Usher Tweeted at 12.05 am Sunday Dec 5.

Rahr, who recently sold his corporation for $1.3billion is big on philanthropy - he is a big donor to the Make A Wish Foundation and several other charities.

The big hearted Brooklyn-born billionaire explains his decision to stump up the remainder of the funds: 'I heard through the grapevine that they were short on their goals, and I wanted to help.

'I sold my company, and I wanted to give back to others in the Empire State.'
