Helping Indonesian Children, Human Initiative Launches HOME Children Learning Centers in 16 Cities

KOMPAS.com - Human Initiative, a non-governmental organization (NGO) from Indonesia, held a grand launching event for the HOME Children Learning Center program on Monday (5/10/2020). President of Human Initiative Tomy Hendrajati inaugurated this event.

The HOME Children Learning Center program itself is a learning home program for children during the pandemic. The program also aims to meet the needs for rights and protection of children which include empowering their parents.

"The children in the HOME Children Center are prioritized for orphans, the poor, and neglected children, with the aim of building and shaping their character through playing, learning and creating," Tomy said through an official release, Monday (5/10/2020).

There are 16 HOME Children Centers that will open, specifically in Jakarta, Ambon, Bengkulu, Lampung, Bukittinggi, Padang, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Deli Serdang, Sleman, Purwokerto, Malang, Makassar, Balikpapan, Depok, and Pulo Aceh.

During the grand launching, there was also an educational webinar with the theme "Children's Learning Situation in Pandemic Period".

The webinar invited various speakers, including Deputy for Child Development at the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Lenny N Rossalin, Director of Early Childhood Education Muhammad Hasbi, Commissioner for the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) in the Education Sector Retno Listyarti, and General Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI) Kak Seto.

"Through HOME Children Learning Center, we hope to aid in fulfilling children's rights, foster better children's character, and help them get additional education aside from formal schools," said Tomy.
