JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, Human Initiative launched a donation program titled "Bukber". The program was introduced in a webinar with the theme "Tarhib Ramadhan 1442 H - Bukber", Monday (5/4/2021).

The word "bukber" in the Human Initiative donation program stands for ‘bulan kita berbagi’ meaning ‘our month of sharing’. This donation program consists of sharing alms, gifts, holiday allowances (THR), to breaking the fast together or iftar.

The donation program and webinar are aimed to remind the public to be grateful in welcoming the month of Ramadan even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Human Initiative also presented a number of speakers in the webinar, including public figures, actresses, as well as master of ceremony (MC) Meyda Sefira, Human Initiative’s Ramadan Ambassador and actor Andi Arsyil, as well as Indonesian ulama Ustaz Wijayanto.

In the event, President of Human Initiative Tomy Hendrajati said that the pandemic presents a great trial for everyone in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia.

Since the pandemic hit, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that the poverty rate in Indonesia has increased dramatically to 26.2 million people in March 2020, compared to 24.79 million in September 2019.

One of the reasons is the massive layoffs by a number of companies during this pandemic.

The declining micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector also contributed to the increase in the poverty rate. Most of the MSME players were forced to go out of business due to the pandemic. This increases the rate of unemployment among the productive age.

“Not everyone is able to face (the situation) and be as fortunate as us in the current pandemic and Ramadan. Hence, be more grateful,” said Tomy in a webinar attended by Kompas.com.

On this occasion, Tomy invited the audience to show solidarity with others by helping those in need through the Bukber donation program held by Human Initiative.

“We are targeting this (year’s) Ramadan to benefit 120,000 people in need. With that target, we will try hard to bring back their smile and spirit. Therefore, we invite the public and donors to jointly set this program in motion so that the positive benefits will grow,” he added.

For information, potential beneficiaries of the Bukber donation program are orphans, dhuafa, health workers, and those affected by Covid-19.

Pandemic doesn’t mean closing yourself off

During the occasion, Andi Arsyil said that the pandemic is not a reason to closing yourself off this Ramadan.

According to him, times like this require keeping the mind positive, maintaining body condition, and improving spirituality.

“In the holy month, (we are) encouraged to make the best of our time. Let's welcome this month with joy, strengthen our hearts, and keep sharing,” said Andy.

Andy added that the Bukber program held by the Human Initiative was very helpful for people in need, especially during the month of Ramadan in the middle of a pandemic.

“If you have enough, it would be better to share your happiness with others,” he said.

Andy himself is excited to join Human Initiative. Moreover, Human Initiative always creates various programs allocating donations from the community to great purposes.

“Humans are best when they serve to the benefit of others. Therefore, let's share a glimmer of happiness that we have with others,” he said.
